About Our Logo and Name... |
|
| Sunset Bay Kayaks gets its name from the beautiful sunsets viewable from our unique kayak setting. As you will notice from the logo, there is no kayak represented. With great respect to the Patwin tribe, who named our town "Suisun", meaning "The Land of the West Wind", we chose instead to depict symbols that are part of our local history. The woman in the logo is Chief Solano's wife, White Heron. She is looking across at a giant Blue Heron, which is one of the largest waterfowl to inhabit the area. White Heron and the Blue Heron are encircled by a wreath of tule, used by the Patwins for shelter and construction of boats and baskets, which are also displayed on either side of the wreath. The two acorns at the top and bottom of the logo depict the acorns that were gathered and ground into meal as a staple food source. | |
